Mold Removal Indoor
The goal of remediation is to remove non-salvageable moldy materials and clean permanent salvageable mold materials in a way that prevents mold, fungi and dust from leaving a work area and entering a non-contaminated area. Removing mold in a safe manner will not only protect the health of those occupying the property, but as well the protection for our mold removal technicians. Setting up containment areas with appropriate equipment running inside and proper protocol disposal methods will allow Mold and Mildew Solutions LLC to bring an area back to a healthy and livable state.
- Pre-verification samples are taken if requested
- The HVAC cannot run during the remediation.
- Mold removal technicians suit up in their P.P.E (personal protection equipment)
A containment area will be set up when there is just a specific area of mold remediation/ removal taking place. Accurately sealing off other areas from the affected work areas by closing any access door with plastic prevents the airborne contaminants from going elsewhere. This is called a containment area. Air scrubbers (a vacuum at least powerful enough to produce six air changes per hour) are to run continuously during remediation inside the containment area and afterward for 24 hours in the un-occupied space. A negative air environment is produced to also not allow the airborne contaminants to escape.
We remove non-salvageable materials usually about two feet beyond the last visible mold. After non-salvageable materials are taken off (for example baseboards, wallpaper, sheetrock, insulation), un-salvageable drywall and non-salvageable materials are carefully removed, bagged and removed from house (according to industry standard for proper spore suppression and safety).
Mold removal technicians will focus on physical removal of mold spores and fungi on permanent items in the contained area, such as exposed wall frames, studs and plates that are now exposed. Then proper surface cleaning protocols are performed. See below for the removal guidelines that Mold and Mildew Solutions follows.
Remediation Guidelines after Demolition (removal of non-salvageable materials or removal of contents)
- Detailed HEPA vacuuming is done on all structure surfaces.
- If structure moisture is too high, drying equipment is used to bring it back down to normal.
- Hand sanding or wire brushing is done if needed.
- Abrasive soda blasting is used when large amounts of surfaces are involved.
- The surfaces are cleaned by hand as needed.
- The duct and or HVAC unit work may need to be cleaned by a NADC certified company before returning to use.
- Final light HEPA vacuuming again and cleaning of horizontal surfaces.
- Anti-Microbial is applied if specified or requested.
- Clearance testing is performed by IEP (in-house or third party) by request.
- An encapsulate (mold prevention coating) is applied if desired or specified.
- HEPA Vacuuming
What does HEPA stand for?
HEPA stands for High Efficiency Particulate Arresting and involves filtration that will move 99.97 percent or more of particles at a size of 0.3 microns in diameter, a size that can get deep into the lung. This is much smaller than most mold spores. These filters remove a greater percentage of particles that are larger than 0.3 microns. No household vacuum cleaner can do this.

Depending on the moisture content, this may take several days. (Mold & Mildew Solutions can give a time frame for drying but not an exact time. Mold & Mildew Solutions and affiliates abide by the Clean Trust, formally known as the IICRC, S500 standards.
